Dealing With A New Baby

Your first baby is bringing you so much joy and so much stress. Your first days are going to be difficult for you as your daily routine is going to change. Your baby will take up all of your time, day and night. You will need to feed your baby every three hours and this will keep you up for some time. Your baby will also cry and you will probably don’t always understand the reason. Babies might cry for many different reasons and parents don’t always understand what they should do. If this is your first baby, chances are that you will feel stressed and uncomfortable as you lack experience. Relax, take a deep breath. If you're nervous you baby will sense that and in turn become nervous himself. There are many sources for you to get the information you need on how to make your baby relax and feel better and eventually stop crying.

It is generally only during the first 5 or 6 months of a baby’s life that its sleeping patterns are irregular and night-feeding will be necessary. If babies have a regular feeding schedule that is followed throughout the day, they will undoubtedly sleep better at night. When babies come into the world, they are fully unaware of time cycles or the differences between day and night. After a certain amount of time, however, it is possible to get your baby on a schedule. Newborns can have trouble staying awake more than two or three hours in one setting and babies will give tell-tale signals that will let you know if they are feeling tired. Regular yawning or rubbing of the eyes will let you know that your baby wants to sleep.

The baby also wants to feel dry and changed. If you keep the baby wet for a long time you are certainly going to hear it cry and this will make the baby nervous and you may need more time to relax again. It will be better to keep the baby happy all the time so that it will be easier to relax at the end of the day and sleep better. Babies respond well and usually calm down if they hear their mother’s voice or some soothing music. Singing can also calm your baby.

Wrapping the baby in a soft blanket is an easy method you can use to make the baby feel comfortable and secure. It provides a sense of security and reminds him of being in his mothers womb. Many times wrapping a baby in a soft blanket, with arms tucked in is very soothing. If they are not hungry any times they will fall asleep in this position. That's why they wrap babies like that in the hospital nursery.

You should always remember that the best way to go is to keep a firm schedule and to let the baby understand your presence. Singing and hugging is also going to help you. Next time the baby wakes up in the middle of the night try to use one of these methods.
